An award-winning family farm
About Us
Hello and welcome to Ernespie Farm.
We are the McMiken family – dad Brian, mum Jane and son David – and we’re the proud owners of Ernespie – a third-generation farm.
In 2019 we decided to diversify to create a sustainable business that was both fun and educational and that’s when Ernespie Farm Centre was born.
David McMiken explains,
“We have always been incredibly proud of our work and what we have achieved on the farm and wanted to share this with the wider world.”
“People are becoming more aware of food miles and the origin of their food and so I wanted to allow people to be able to see first-hand what is involved in the production of milk on a Scottish dairy farm.”
“Every year we add something new and our ambition is to keep pushing forward with this. Last year we added the pumpkin patch for picking and carving at Halloween and everybody loved it, so it will be running again this year.
“Keep checking our news section and Facebook page for updates on what’s new on the farm.”
Ernespie Farm Centre
We’ve got indoor Soft Play, farm fun in our Outdoor Play, and fields full of other activities like pedal karts, a Cresta slide, and a zip wire if you’re feeling brave.
Browse our gift shop, garden centre and plant shop then follow your nose to our Farmhouse Kitchen where the food is tasty and the portions as healthy as all that fresh air that’ll be in your lungs.
We’ll cater for you throughout the day – from a filling lunch to an afternoon cuppa and sweet or savoury treat.
We also have bee hives in our woodland area.
Beekeeping is a McMiken family tradition and you can buy the honey and the comb in our gift shop.
History and The Farm
We took on the farm in 1947, changing it to a dairy farm in 1958, and it has been working as one ever since.
We won Agriscot Dairy Farm of the year in 2019 and we now employ five people on the farm and 27 at The Ernespie Farm Shop and Play, the majority of whom are locals.
The farm has 300 milking cows and collectively we farm over 600 acres and the vast majority of the milk we produce goes to supermarket, Morrisons.
Farm Fun and Activities
Right. Where to first?
Zip wire? Pedal karts? Cresta slide? Bouncy pillows?
There’s plenty to keep your kids occupied and off their phones for a few hours at least.
Throughout the summer we put on tractor tours around our working dairy farm unless it’s blowing a hoolie or we’re particularly busy.
Younger children have the Soft Play indoors to keep them occupied and why not round off your day at Ernespie Farm with a relaxing family stroll through our beautiful woodland walks.
