Outdoor Fun
Ernespie is a working farm but there’s always time for play and fun when the farmer’s not looking.
Our Outdoor Play is a magical place for kids and it;s open April-October.
Pedal karts, bouncy pillows (for toddlers and bigger kids – yes, yes alright, even you grownups can have a shot!), Cresta slide, combine harvester that’s living a second life as a climbing frame and slide, and woodland walks.
And once they get through all that, there’s a zip wire, sandpit with digger, buckets and spades plus another small slide.
But will you find the secret play frame or will you give up after five minutes and make a beeline for the café?
And speaking of bees, we produce our own honey on the farm that you can buy in the shop in summer.
You’ll find the beehives in the woodland area.
Combine Shed
Ernespie Farm is big on sustainability and that’s one reason we converted one of our old combine harvesters into a climbing frame and slide.
The other reason is IT’S THE MOST FUN EVER!
Lots of kids feel compelled to pop granddad at the wheel while they scurry up and down around him – while the more daring Papas have even been known to try and squeeze themselves down the slide egged on by the kids!
Fun facts:
The combine harvester, or Combine for short, is a versatile machine designed to efficiently harvest a variety of grain crops.
The name Combine derives from combining three separate harvesting operations, reaping, threshing and winnowing – all rolled into one process.
We use a combine to harvest crops such as wheat, oats and barley.
Combines separate straw left lying in the field that comprises stems and corn leaves on the crop with limited nutrients left in it. The straw is then either chopped, spread on the field, or ploughed back in or baled for bedding and limited feed for the livestock.
We bale our straw for bedding.
Tractor Rides
Our incredibly popular tractor rides run restarted in April 2022 and have been a real hit since their return! Who doesn’t love a tractor ride, it’s fun for all the family!
Go behind the scenes of our dairy farm, learn about our cows, see where they’re milked and more…
We recommend arriving early to avoid disappointment, the tractor ride usually runs at 11.30am during weekends and school holidays and spaces are limited.
Tickets are £2.00 per person and can be purchased on the front desk.
The welfare of the animals on the farm is our top priority, so we are limited to the number of farm visits we can accommodate per day.
Please note, we are a busy working farm so there are times that tractor rides will be unavailable. During term time and silage time the tractor rides will not be available.
Animal Barn
Our animal barn is home to rabbits, ducks, guinea pigs and goats, depending on the time of year.
The perfect activity which the whole family can enjoy! Come and meet the animals and learn all about them!
We have welcomed some cute new additions to the Ernespie Farm animal barn. Keep your eyes on our Facebook page for updates on all our new adorable furry friends.
Cresta Slide
Don’t be fooled by our wooden Cresta run slide. It’s faster than it looks and your kids can hop on it again and again!
Pedal Karts
Our super-speedy pedal karts whizz around the circuit where everyone’s a winner – mainly because nobody can keep track!
Woodland walks
For a breakout in the serenity of the forest, try our woodland walks. Don’t worry, you don’t have to walk too far before you find somewhere new to play!
Did you know that walking in forests could reduce stress and improve mood and sleep quality? Plus some studies suggest it can also improve the ability to focus in children with ADHD.
Keep an eye out for our Beehives where we collect our famous Ernespie Honey!
