Farm to Table in the Farmhouse Kitchen
As a third-generation farmer, David McMiken has built his business around the family dairy farm. Ernespie Farm centre opened its doors in 2019 and has become a firm favourite with local residents and passing holidays makers alike. Offering soft play, outdoor play, farm tours, a gift shop, garden centre and Farmhouse Kitchen restaurant, there’s always something to keep the family entertained.
Set amongst the background of the family dairy farm, the Farmhouse Kitchen opened its doors in 2019. Featuring hearty home-cooked meals, home baking and freshly brewed coffee, it’s the perfect spot for all ages and occasions.
In a time where customers are more interested than ever in where their food comes from, David has recently introduced Ernespie Farm beef to the menu. He says:
“It has long been an ambition to reduce the food miles on our menu and join the farm to table movement, and we are proud to have Ernespie beef served to our customers. All the beef on our menu has been born and raised on Ernespie Farm. We have Simmental cattle which gives us animals that are slow growing, this means the meat has a fine structure and good marbling. The animals are grass fed which adds to the flavour and texture.
The meat is cut and packaged by our local butchers at Griersons in Castle Douglas. This reduces food miles, making it not only delicious, but environmentally sustainable as well. Ernespie Farm extends to around 700 acres and the team follow only the highest animal welfare standards, reducing stress and rearing happier animals.
