fun for all the family in the heart of the country
Legen-dairy Open Farm Sunday 2023
Ernespie Farm joined more than 250 farms across the UK on Sunday 11th June 2023 and opened the gates for the return of the annual LEAF open farm Sunday. Run by the McMiken family, Ernespie Farm is a 3rd generation dairy farm with around 300 milking Holstein cows. The family have enjoyed the event for the last few years and have proudly used the event as an opportunity to fundraise for RHET (Royal Highland Education Trust) and this year didn’t disappoint, with a massive 400+ visitors travelling to the farm for the day.
Who organises it?
Managed by LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming), Open Farm Sunday unites the industry and shines a spotlight on the agricultural sector. As a proud Arla farm, the team at Ernespie use the event as a way of showcasing the good farming practises undertaken daily on farms around the UK.
Farm owner David McMiken said of the event, “It’s been another great day! We always enjoying signing up for Open Farm Sunday because it’s gives us such a good opportunity to engage with the local community and gives people from all backgrounds the chance to visit the farm.”
Fun on the farm!
Visitors enjoyed trailer rides with Hugh McClymont, farming demonstrations and plenty of fun family activities. The event offers a chance for the farming community to engage, share stories, burst farming myths and change peoples perception on the dairy industry, bringing farming to life for hundreds of visitors. The farm pulled out all the stops with a large variety of farming equipment on display (which delighted the many mini farmers who came to visit).
